MALIGAON, Oct 11: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced enhanced On-Board Services in five identified trains, becoming the second Zonal Railway in Indian Railways to implement the initiative.
The services were formally launched at Guwahati Railway Station on Saturday, in presence of the Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer (PCME) N F Railway and other senior railway officials. The technology-enabled housekeeping services are being implemented by SMC Integrated Facility Management Solutions Limited, with dedicated teams deployed across the identified trains to ensure continuous cleanliness, improved sanitation and prompt redressal of passenger complaints throughout the journey.
The enhanced services will cover five train services: the Kamakhya-SMVT Bengaluru Express (12552/12551), commencing on 14th October 2026; the Guwahati-Kolkata Garib Rath Express (12518/12517), commencing on 10th October 2026; the Dibrugarh-Mumbai LTT Express (15946/15945), commencing on 11th October 2026; the New Jalpaiguri-Patna Vande Bharat Express (22233/22234), commencing on 10th October 2026 and the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express (22227/22228), commencing on 10th October 2026.
The enhanced On-Board Services will ensure regular coach and AC window cleaning, improved washroom hygiene, efficient waste management and timely linen distribution and collection. Dedicated teams will provide basic technical assistance, monitor water availability and address passenger complaints within a target of two hours, escalating unresolved issues to the concerned Railway authorities. To enhance service quality and accountability, the initiative incorporates digital monitoring, geo-tagged service verification, staff tracking and a centralised monitoring mechanism. Real-time passenger feedback, star ratings and AI-based cleaning assessments will further support performance evaluation, ensuring improved cleanliness, passenger comfort and a better overall travel experience.
In a step towards promoting local craftsmanship, uniforms for the on-board service staff have been made by local weavers with support from the NEDFi, under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER).
Through this initiative, Northeast Frontier Railway aims to strengthen on-board cleanliness, improve hygiene standards and enhance passenger satisfaction. The integration of technology-enabled housekeeping, digital monitoring and responsive services will ensure a cleaner, safer and more comfortable railway travel experience for passengers.
