NCC cadets explore Poma, Chimi hills under NER Trek-I

ITANAGAR, Oct 14: As many as 550 NCC cadets participating in NER Trek-I (Rising Sun Trek) explored the scenic trekking routes of Poma and Chimi hills in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, the fifth day of the expedition organised under the aegis of 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC.

The trek through Poma Hills took the cadets along rugged kutcha tracks, forested paths and picturesque valleys, testing their physical endurance, determination and adaptability. The lush green surroundings also offered them an opportunity to observe the region’s rich flora and fauna and appreciate its ecological diversity.

The route passed through agricultural fields and rural settlements, allowing the cadets to experience the traditional way of life of the people of Poma village. Interactions with local residents provided insights into their customs, traditions and community life, adding a cultural dimension to the expedition.

The engagement also promoted national integration by bringing together cadets from diverse regions and cultural backgrounds and familiarising them with the heritage and lifestyle of Arunachal Pradesh.

Negotiating uneven trails, steep slopes and forested terrain encouraged the cadets to develop resilience, self-discipline, mutual trust and teamwork. The experience also reinforced the importance of environmental awareness and responsible exploration of natural surroundings.

NER Trek-I aims to promote physical fitness, mental fortitude, leadership and camaraderie among NCC cadets while fostering national integration and appreciation of India's cultural and ecological diversity.

Beyond the physical challenges, the expedition has provided the cadets with opportunities to build lasting friendships, appreciate the natural beauty of the region and experience the warmth and hospitality of its local communities, reflecting the NCC motto, “Unity and Discipline.”
