Two-day child rights awareness and sensitization program in KD wrapped up

PALIN, Oct 15: A two-day child rights awareness and sensitization programme themed ‘Know Your Rights, Protection of Every Child’, organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) in active collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and the ICDS (Kra-Daadi district), concluded successfully here today.

The intensive two-day initiative commenced yesterday with extensive field visits and institutional assessments across the district. The visiting APSCPCR team, accompanied by district support officials, inspected key community facilities, including the One Stop Centre and Anganwadi Centres at Jorung and Lumba. The delegation also conducted thorough inspections of prominent educational institutions, namely Byabang Heri Hr Sec School, Don Bosco School, and JNV Palin. During these visits, members interacted directly with students, teachers, Anganwadi workers, and helpers to evaluate child safety standards, RTE implementation, Child Helpline (1098), POCSO awareness mechanisms, sanitation, and nutrition.

In the afternoon, a high-level review meeting was convened with key child protection functionaries—including representatives from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), DCPU, Child Helpline, Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), and ICDS—to address pending cases, infrastructure challenges, and inter-agency coordination.

The second phase of the programme was held at Nyokum Hall, Palin today.

Dolang Taging, CWC Chairperson, delivered the welcome address, followed by inspiring remarks from Tassar Punam (ZPM 01 East), Sepraj Perme (Superintendent of Police Kra-Daadi), Higio Yame (Deputy Commissioner Kra-Daadi), and Niri Chongrowju and Taba Champa Riba, the Members of APSCPCR, who emphasized the crucial role of community responsibility in safeguarding child rights.

Following the session, an expert-led technical segment addressed critical welfare and legal frameworks.

Nabam Tania, Protection Officer at DCPU, delivered an in-depth session on child protection mechanisms, the POCSO Act, child sexual abuse, child labor, and child marriage.

Chongrowju spoke extensively on the Right to Education, school safety, bullying, ragging, and harassment.

Mental health, emotional well-being, and substance abuse prevention were addressed by resource person Dr Gimi Tang, while Nong Jongkey, Officer In-charge of Palin Police Station, led a vital session on online safety, social media misuse, digital child protection, and online gaming.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from HoDs, school principals, teachers, PRI members, Gaon Burahs, parents, and community leaders. Speakers reiterated the collective responsibility of the administration, police, education and health sectors, PRIs, and community stakeholders in fostering a secure, responsive, and child-friendly environment.

Coordinated by the Office of the CDPO-cum-DCPO, Palin, alongside active support from DCPU, OSC, and ICDS teams, the programme successfully reinforced the enduring commitment summarized in its closing message: “Every Child Has Rights. Every Adult Has a Responsibility. Together, We Can Protect Every Child.”
