ITANAGAR, Oct 15: An awareness campaign on preventing accidents involving tractor-trailers and other agricultural machinery was organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Karsingsa, in Papum Pare district on Thursday, with around 45 progressive farmers participating.
The programme was conducted by the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture and Allied Sector (ESAAS) under the Department of Agricultural Engineering, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli.
Prof. K N Dewangan highlighted the importance of installing Slow-Moving Vehicle (SMV) reflective emblems on tractor-trailers to alert other road users and help prevent rear-end collisions, particularly in low-light conditions.
He also delivered an audio-visual presentation on farm safety, the safety of women engaged in agriculture and the proper use of agricultural tools and machinery.
As part of the campaign, SMV reflective emblems were distributed among tractor owners and affixed to the rear of tractor-trailers to improve their visibility on public roads.
Dewangan urged farmers to follow essential safety precautions while operating agricultural machinery, including switching off engines before cleaning or carrying out repairs, ensuring that moving parts are properly covered and avoiding overloading of trailers.
The programme was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
