ITANAGAR, Oct 16: The eight-day NCC national-level camp, Rising Sun Trek (NER Trek-I), concluded at Itanagar on Friday, bringing together 550 cadets and 18 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) from 13 states.
The camp commenced on October 10 at Mallo Tarin Government Higher Secondary School, Itanagar, under the aegis of the 1st Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC, Tezpur Group, North Eastern Region (NER) Directorate. The participating cadets represented five NCC directorates — West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and the North Eastern Region.
During the camp, the cadets undertook challenging treks along hilly roads to Chimi village and through forest trails in the Poma hills, gaining first-hand experience of the region's terrain and natural environment.
A survival training exercise at Poma village familiarised the cadets with techniques for utilising locally available resources in jungle and riverine environments. The exercise was witnessed by Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona and local villagers.
The cadets also learnt practical knots, lashings and traditional techniques used by local communities in their daily lives. Friendly matches and athletics competitions on the concluding day further strengthened their bonds and team spirit.
As part of the educational and cultural exposure programme, the cadets visited sites of historical and cultural significance in Arunachal Pradesh and learnt about the state's rich heritage, flora and fauna.
The camp concluded with a renewed emphasis on unity, friendship and national integration, encouraging the cadets to explore the country's diverse cultural and geographical heritage through similar initiatives.
The camp commandant expressed gratitude to the principal of MTGHSS, the Director of Secondary Education and the Youth Welfare Officer of Arunachal Pradesh for extending infrastructure and other logistical support that contributed to the successful conduct of the camp.
