Spear Corps conducts white-water rafting course for NCC cadets in Aalo

Itanagar, Oct 24: Troops of the Spear Corps conducted a five-day basic white-water rafting course for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets at Aalo in West Siang district from October 19 to 23, aiming to promote adventure, physical fitness, teamwork and leadership among youth.

A total of 20 cadets from 51 Battalion NCC and other NCC units under Group Headquarters Dibrugarh, including 10 Assam Battalion NCC and 63 Assam Battalion NCC, participated in the programme. The contingent also included a Junior Commissioned Officer, a Non-Commissioned Officer and a Girls Cadet Instructor.

The training comprised theoretical and practical sessions on white-water rafting, swimming practice and tests, river-crossing drills and river signals. The activities were designed to build confidence, discipline, resilience and team spirit among the participants.

As part of the programme, the cadets attended an interactive lecture on career opportunities in the Armed Forces to familiarise them with avenues for joining the services. Another session highlighted the historical significance and lessons of the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

A display of weapons and military equipment familiarised the cadets with defence equipment, while the screening of the film Uri: The Surgical Strike highlighted the values of courage, leadership, sacrifice and service to the nation.

The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s continued efforts to engage with young people through adventure training and character-building activities. Such programmes also aim to strengthen cooperation between the Army and the NCC under the broader ethos of military-civil fusion.
