RONO HILLS, Oct 24: As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) organized ‘Swachh Paathshala – Yuva for Swachhata: Sensitizing Students for Swachhata through Swachhata Gyan’ at the Govt Sec School, RGU Campus.
The initiative aimed to promote awareness of cleanliness, sanitation, personal hygiene, and environmental responsibility among students and to encourage them to adopt clean and healthy practices in their daily lives.
The programme focused on sensitizing students to the importance of maintaining a clean school environment and developing a sense of responsibility towards sanitation and hygiene. Through cleanliness-related activities and awareness initiatives, students were encouraged to understand that cleanliness is not merely an individual responsibility but a collective commitment involving students, teachers, staff, and the wider community.
The activities were carried out under the supervision and coordination of Dr A Yuvaraj, Assistant Director Physical Education and Programme Coordinator, SHS 2026, RGU, in coordination with the concerned school authorities. Students, teachers, and staff participated in cleanliness activities covering classrooms, play areas, the school surroundings, and sanitation facilities. Waste materials were collected and disposed of properly to improve hygiene and maintain a clean and healthy learning environment.
A key highlight of the programme was the administration of the Swachhata Pledge, in which students, teachers, and school staff collectively pledged to keep their school premises neat and clean and to uphold the values of cleanliness and hygiene. The pledge reinforced the message that maintaining cleanliness requires regular effort, responsible behaviour, and active participation from everyone.
The programme also emphasized the importance of personal hygiene, proper waste disposal, environmental protection, and the responsible use and maintenance of sanitation facilities. Students were encouraged to practise these habits at school, at home, and in their communities, thereby becoming ambassadors of cleanliness and spreading awareness among their families and peers.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from the school community to maintain a clean, hygienic, and welcoming learning environment.
