BJP leader condemns looting, seeks security for Siang-belt legislators

PASIGHAT, Oct 26: Former state vice-president of BJP Arunachal Pradesh Tarh Tarak has condemned the alleged vandalism and looting of properties belonging to state BJP president Kaling Moyong and MLAs Ninong Ering and Oni Panyang following the recent 12-hour bandh in Pasighat, calling for an impartial investigation and legal action against those responsible.

Tarak, accompanied by Nima Sangey, Chairman of the RM&PI Department of Finance, Planning and Investment, visited the damaged properties on Monday to assess the extent of the destruction. They also met Moyong, Ering, Panyang and their family members and relatives to express concern over the incidents.

Tarak said the reported theft of ancestral ornaments and family heirlooms was particularly distressing. While acknowledging peaceful protest as a democratic right, he said violence, vandalism and destruction of private property could not be justified.

He urged the authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible. He also appealed to the public to maintain peace and social harmony and resolve differences through dialogue and constitutional means.

Tarak further urged the state government to ensure adequate security for MLAs and ministers from the Siang belt, particularly Moyong, in view of the recent incidents. He stressed that the safety of elected representatives and protection of their properties should be prioritised to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Appealing to all sections of society to exercise restraint, he said democratic differences must be addressed through peaceful and constitutional means and called for collective efforts to preserve peace, unity and brotherhood in Arunachal Pradesh.
