APPSC outreach programme guides students on competitive exams, career options

ITANAGAR, Oct 28: The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) organised an outreach programme at Donyi Polo BEd College, Chimpu, on Wednesday to familiarise students with competitive examinations, public service careers and alternative professional opportunities.

APPSC Chairman Prof (Dr) Pradip Lingfa and commission members Col (Retd) Koj Tari and Taru Talo, IAS (Retd), addressed the students, sharing guidance on examination preparation, career planning and personal development.

Col Tari highlighted common mistakes made by competitive examination aspirants and outlined entry schemes, eligibility criteria and selection procedures for joining the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. Describing the Armed Forces as a noble profession dedicated to serving the nation, he urged students to develop discipline, leadership, teamwork and patriotism. He also stressed the importance of reading, writing, listening, speaking and physical fitness.

Talo explained the constitutional role and recruitment functions of the APPSC, emphasising merit, fairness and impartiality. He advised aspirants to follow a systematic preparation strategy involving proper planning, regular practice and awareness of current affairs.

He also encouraged students to look beyond government jobs and explore opportunities in entrepreneurship, tourism and skill-based professions, stressing the importance of integrity and commitment to public service.

In his address, Lingfa urged students to pursue their goals with dedication, perseverance and self-discipline. He said success in competitive examinations required more than academic excellence, with communication skills, leadership qualities and confidence also playing important roles.

Advising students to prepare a structured daily schedule and follow it consistently, he said, “Right thought, right action, right behaviour and right habits will lead to the right destination.”

Lingfa encouraged students not to lose hope after failure, but to treat setbacks as opportunities to learn and improve. He also explained the APPSC’s role in conducting recruitment examinations and offered insights into examination procedures, syllabi and public service career opportunities. He cautioned aspirants against taking shortcuts and urged them to remain focused on their goals.

College principal Dr Dharmendra Rai highlighted the importance of such outreach initiatives in providing career guidance and exposing students to diverse professional opportunities.

The programme provided students an opportunity to interact with senior APPSC representatives and gain practical insights into competitive examination preparation, career choices and their responsibilities towards society and the nation.
