BASAR, Oct 28: The 10th district-level meeting of the Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) for 2026 was held at the DC’s conference hall here today under the chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairperson NCORD Leparada district Himani Meena to review anti-drug initiatives and strengthen coordinated efforts towards making Leparada a drug-free district.
Reviewing departmental activities against tasks assigned during the previous meeting, the DC emphasised sustained awareness campaigns under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and called for greater coordination among government departments, civil society and other stakeholders.
The DC also reviewed the functioning of De-addiction and treatment services at District Hospital, Basar.
She further observed that departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary and ArSRLM involved at the grassroots-level could play a significant role in spreading awareness through their regular engagement with communities. She called for sustained outreach to create a wider social impact and reinforce the collective resolve against drug abuse.
Emphasising that tackling substance abuse required shared responsibility, the DC urged all stakeholders to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and work towards the common goal of a drug-free Leparada.
DMO Dr K Dirchi informed the chair that the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), under the supervision of AIIMS, New Delhi, and the Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) facility under the state government were functional at the hospital.
Stressing the need to improve public awareness of these services, she directed the Health Department to widely publicise the available counselling, treatment and support facilities, including relevant helpline numbers, so that affected individuals and their families could access timely assistance.
Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra, Convenor-NCORD, underscored the importance of awareness, information-sharing and coordinated enforcement in tackling the drug menace.
The SP, meanwhile, called upon all departments and stakeholders to share relevant information and inputs with the police for prompt and necessary action. He also emphasized the importance of proactive role from each stakeholder in addressing the drug menace and strengthening coordination to prevent drug-related activities.
Representatives from the Forest Department, Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), Tax and Excise, Education, ICDS, Veterinary, Agriculture and Horticulture departments, along with Rego Bango Ane MPCS and the Reincarnates group, shared updates on awareness activities undertaken during the month. These included school programmes, public outreach events, awareness campaigns and pledges against drug abuse.
Members of the Reincarnates group, comprising individuals recovering from substance dependence, suggested involving recovered persons in departmental awareness programmes to share their experiences and educate students and the public about the harmful consequences of drug abuse.
The DC welcomed their suggestion and asked departments to explore their participation through appropriate consultation. (DIPRO)
