ZIRO, Oct 29: The Lower Subansiri district administration has called for stronger grassroots awareness and coordinated efforts among departments to combat substance abuse, with the police urging member departments of the District Level Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) Committee to organise awareness campaigns two to three times a month.
The call was made during the 24th District Level NCORD Committee meeting held at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hall in Ziro. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme and attended by Superintendent of Police Techi Hanyir, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Hibu Dumi and heads of various departments.
The committee reviewed progress since its previous meeting and assessed ongoing preventive and enforcement measures, including the installation of complaint boxes in schools to enable students to report concerns safely.
The administration appreciated the Police Department for regularly conducting awareness programmes across the district, emphasising the importance of community participation in preventing substance abuse.
SP Techi Hanyir urged all NCORD member departments to intensify their involvement by independently organising awareness campaigns at least two to three times a month. The meeting also discussed challenges affecting enforcement, including a lack of active complainants and gaps in coordination among departments.
ZPC Hibu Dumi stressed the need for unity and cooperation among all sectors of local governance to strengthen the district’s anti-drug efforts.
The administration reiterated its commitment to combating substance abuse and appealed to parents, teachers, youth groups and community elders to work closely with authorities to protect young people from drug-related harm.
