ITANAGAR, Oct 30: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has reiterated the Arunachal Pradesh Government’s willingness to hold dialogue with all stakeholders on the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), stressing that concerns and differences over the project should be addressed through constructive engagement, informed discussions and mutual understanding.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of the All Palin, Chambang, Yangte, Gangte and Tarak-Lengdi Students’ Union at Palin, Mein said the government was open to engaging with all concerned sections, including community-based organisations, student bodies, civil society groups and individuals who have expressed apprehensions over the proposed project.
He emphasised that democratic differences should be addressed through dialogue rather than confrontation, and called for an atmosphere in which all stakeholders could freely express their views and concerns.
Mein also highlighted the importance of expert consultations and informed public discourse in addressing issues surrounding the mega dam project. He stressed that technical assessments and wider public awareness were essential to ensuring that discussions were based on a clear understanding of the project and its implications.
Reiterating the government’s openness to engagement, he said all concerned organisations and individuals would have the opportunity to participate in discussions, underlining the need for mutual understanding and a constructive approach to the issue.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks come amid continuing concerns and tensions over the proposed project in the Siang region.
