NAMSAI, Nov 1: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein attended the final of “Balakrishnanji Memorial State level Volleyball Tournament 2026”, organized by the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas Arunachal Pradesh Trust (VKVAPT), at Kharsang today.
On the occasion, the Dy CM paid tribute to A Balakrishnan, a visionary educationist and dedicated social worker whose contributions to Arunachal Pradesh remain deeply cherished. From establishing the first VKV in the State to taking education to remote communities, Balakrishnan dedicated his life to selfless service and nation-building.
His historic 21-day journey on foot from Roing to Anini in the year 1977 remains a remarkable example of his determination and commitment to reaching the unreached. His contributions to education and character-building continue to inspire generations across the State.
The tournament brought together young volleyball players from across the State, providing them with a platform to showcase their talent while promoting teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
Mein appreciated the VKVAPT, the organizers, teachers and volunteers for continuing Balakrishnan’s vision through education and youth development.
Later, the Dy CM participated in the Vijayadashami Utsav, organized by the Rashtra Sevika Samiti at Namsai commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Samiti. He acknowledged the organisation's longstanding contribution to women’s empowerment, character-building, leadership development and social service.
Founded by Lakshmibai Kelkar, popularly known as Mausiji, in 1936, the Samiti has worked over the decades to strengthen women’s participation in nation-building. Its foundational ideals of ‘Matrutva, Kartrutva and Netrutva’ highlight the role of women in shaping families, communities and society.
He observed that women have always been central to the social and cultural fabric of Arunachal Pradesh. From preserving indigenous traditions to contributing to agriculture, entrepreneurship, education, administration and public life, women continue to play an important role in the State’s development.
Emphasizing the vision of Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat by 2047, Mein called for continued efforts to create opportunities for women to access education, develop leadership, achieve economic independence and realize their full potential. (Dy CM’s media cell)
