PASIGHAT, Nov 2: Promoting innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among youth, the Department of Commerce, Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) in collaboration with the Satellite Incubation Cell (SIC) organized an entrepreneurship programme titled “Prarambh: The Beginning of Enterprise” here today.
The programme featured a product launch competition as its main highlight, where students presented five innovative products developed by them — HOMMEDY, a fermented pineapple wine; PASIGHAT CRUNCH, cassava chips; JOJO, a gel-based air freshener; EASTERN AMBING, a rice-based soap; and ASLI OIL, a locally produced oil.
Among the presentations, JOJO emerged as the winner for its innovative idea and presentation and was awarded a certificate and cash prize.
Appreciating the initiative, Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashan Riddi described it as a significant beginning for the university and its students. Linking it to the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP), he stressed on developing responsible, capable and problem-solving citizens through critical thinking, multidisciplinary knowledge and integration of practical, day-to-day learning with classroom teaching.
The competition was judged by Ninna Lego, founder of House of Macnok, Dr Rajen Miwu, HoD Commerce, and Dr Fames Linggi, HoD Economics.
Delivering an interactive session, Lego shared her entrepreneurial journey and highlighted how indigenous skills and craftsmanship of Arunachal Pradesh, such as the traditional art of making Gales, can be transformed into sustainable business opportunities while preserving local culture.
She urged students to understand the market, maintain authenticity and reflect on three fundamental questions before starting a venture — Whom do you want to serve? What do you want to offer? And why do you want to start the business?
Earlier, Dr Miwu spoke about the practical application of academic knowledge and highlighted support available under the Arunachal Pradesh Entrepreneurship Development Programme (APEDP) and various state and central government initiatives.
Dr Yab Rajiv Camder, Assistant Professor, encouraged students to explore vocational learning, develop innovative ideas and become creators rather than mere consumers while exploring business opportunities and funding schemes.
