KYIDPHEL, Nov 4: The third Kyidphel Block Inter-School Meet 2026 began on Wednesday, bringing together around 300 students from eight schools for a four-day programme of sports and co-curricular activities under the theme “Plastic-Free Tawang”.
Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering inaugurated the event in the presence of Kyidphel ZPM Tenzin Monpa.
The meet aims to provide students with a platform to showcase their talents, build confidence and develop leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship. This year's theme also seeks to promote environmental awareness among young people and encourage them to reduce plastic use and adopt sustainable practices.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA and the ZPM urged students to uphold discipline, hard work and dedication while participating in the competitions. They also called for collective efforts to make Tawang a plastic-free and drug-free district, emphasising the role of students, teachers, parents and the wider community in building a cleaner and healthier society.
Tsering also stressed the need to preserve and promote the Monpa community's cultural heritage, traditions and indigenous dialect. He encouraged students to embrace modern education and emerging opportunities while remaining connected to their cultural roots.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by MMT Tawang vice-president Advocate Pem Chowang, Assistant Commissioner Kyidphel Sangey Norbu, Tawang DDSE Hridar Phuntsok, Indian Army officers, Gaon Burahs, PRI members, parents, teachers and other guests.
The four-day meet is expected to foster healthy competition, strengthen bonds among students and encourage greater participation in activities beyond the classroom.
