ITANAGAR, Nov 4: Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Harpal Singh has dedicated a 460-foot-long bridge over the Lohit river in Arunachal Pradesh's Anjaw district to the nation.
According to a statement, the Meshai Hybrid Bridge, constructed by the 1444 Bridge Construction Company under the Border Roads Organisation's (BRO) Project Udayak, will provide improved connectivity to strategically important remote settlements beyond Walong, including Meshai, Dong and Kaho.
Addressing a gathering virtually on Tuesday, Singh commended the Project Udayak team for completing the challenging construction work in a remarkably short period, despite difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.
He described the bridge as a significant milestone in border infrastructure development, especially given the monsoon challenges that had damaged previously constructed bridges.
A programme at Meshai village was attended by Project Udayak Chief Engineer S K Verma, 48 Border Roads Task Force Commanding Officer Pankaj Swasat, Army personnel, Indo-Tibetan Border Police officials, BRO representatives, local administration officials and community members.
The new bridge is expected to strengthen road connectivity in Walong, Kibithu and Kaho along the Indo-Tibetan frontier, while improving access to remote border villages and facilitating the movement of security forces and civilians, the statement said.
The improved infrastructure is also expected to give a boost to tourism in the region, known for its scenic landscape and proximity to the international border. (PTI)
