TEZU, Nov 5: Lohit Deputy Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo on Thursday flagged off a vehicle carrying Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) from the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Centre at Tezu, marking a step forward in the district’s efforts to improve scientific solid waste management.
The programme was organised by the Department of Urban Development, Tezu Division, to mark the successful remediation of accumulated waste at the MRF Centre.
Addressing the gathering, Executive Engineer Bapenlu Kri highlighted the importance of the initiative in improving solid waste management in Tezu. She also explained how RDF, produced from non-recyclable combustible waste, can be used as an alternative fuel in suitable industrial facilities.
A senior manager of Feedback Foundation Charitable Trust (FFCT) briefed participants on the remediation process, including the segregation, processing, handling and transportation of RDF. The process helps recover usable material from legacy waste and reduce the burden on dumping sites, he said.
Deputy Commissioner Damo appreciated the efforts of sanitation workers and Safai Mitras in maintaining cleanliness and managing waste in the township. Describing them as the people behind a clean and healthy society, he urged them to continue their work with dedication.
He also stressed the need for proper waste segregation, responsible disposal and greater public participation to keep Tezu clean and environmentally sustainable.
The programme was attended by BJP Lohit district unit president Gamso Bellai, representatives of FFCT, engineering officials and sanitation workers. (DIPRO)
