‘Education must go beyond academic marks’: U/Siang DC

YINGKIONG, Nov 5: Royal Siang Academy, Jengging celebrated its Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years of its contribution towards providing quality education in Upper Siang district.

Established in 2001 by Dr Appir Apang and Dr Mity Jopir Apang, with the vision of providing quality education to children of remote Jengging and adjoining villages in the aftermath of the Siang floods, the institution has grown into a prominent centre of learning, with its educational network now extending to Yingkiong.

Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Dr Ashok Tajo, the chief guest, inaugurated the silver jubilee memorial, in presence of DDSE Duhon Tekseng, founders, educationists, teachers, students, alumni and members of the public.

Addressing the gathering, the DC congratulated the school fraternity for its collective achievements and emphasized that education must go beyond academic marks to focus on knowledge, practical skills, moral values and character building. Highlighting the four pillars of education—learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be—he stressed the need to develop the head, heart and hands of every child.

He urged the institution to focus on digital literacy, foundational and skill-based learning, health and environmental awareness while preserving indigenous culture and traditions. Envisioning the institution's future, he proposed a “Vision 2050” for Royal Siang Academy, suggesting the development of a well-equipped library, science and computer laboratories, playground and hostel facilities. He also encouraged the formation of an Alumni Association to guide and inspire future generations.

Calling upon students to uphold Discipline, Respect and Dream Big, he reminded them that children from remote villages could aspire to become civil servants, doctors, engineers, teachers and future leaders. He also emphasised the spirit of “Pan Arunachal”, urging everyone to rise above tribal identities and work together for collective progress.

On the occasion, the DDSE released the Silver Jubilee souvenir, and highlighted the importance of education, the role of teachers and parents, and the need to develop strong human resources.

DIPRO Upper Siang Yalik Jerang congratulated the school management and expressed hope that the institution would continue to grow and contribute towards raising the standard of education in the district.
