ITANAGAR, Nov 7: As part of its efforts to promote academic exposure, scientific awareness, and experiential learning among students, the Science Club of Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC), Itanagar organized a Science Educational Walk themed ‘Exploring Science Beyond the Classroom’ at the Science Centre, Itanagar today.
A total of 50 students from six departments of the college - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, and Anthropology (Human Science), actively participated in the programme.
The team was accompanied by two faculty escorts: Botem Moyong, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Convenor of the Science Club, and Dr Lham Tashi, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Co-Convenor of the Club.
The programme featured a series of educational and interactive activities, including visits to the Science Galleries/Museum and Dino Park, a digital learning session on basic space education at the Planetarium/Space Education Centre, a hands-on training programme at the Innovation Hub, an interactive session and technical interaction with Dr Vivek Kumar, Curator Science Centre, and a report-writing competition among the participating students.
One of the major highlights of the programme was the two-hour hands-on training session in which students gained practical exposure to various scientific concepts, techniques, and innovative technologies. Under the guidance of the Hub's experts and mentors, the participants explored some chemical reactions, microscopic examination of plant structures, pollen grains, cell walls and cell membranes, and various innovative models and devices. They were also introduced to 3D printing technology, electrical devices, and other scientific innovations, providing them with valuable opportunities to connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
The students subsequently attended a digital learning session, where they explored fascinating aspects of space science, including space exploration, planets, constellations, satellites, stars, and galaxies. The digitally presented visual content on the large 3D screen offered an engaging and informative learning experience.
As part of the concluding activity (report-writing competition), students documented their observations, learning experiences, and key takeaways from the educational visit and submitted their reports to Moyong. The five best writers will be recognized and awarded prizes along with certificates later.
Meanwhile, the Science Club has expressed its sincere gratitude to DNGC Principal Dr Kumar Tok for his constant guidance, encouragement, and support towards the activities of the Club.
