‘VSATs to be installed in 882 locations across State for last-mile connectivity’

ITANAGAR, Dec 8: In order to realise the dream of Digital Arunachal, the Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to install VSATs (Very Small Aperture Terminals) in 882 locations, even in the remotest corner of the landlocked state, for last-mile connectivity.

“With a resolve to realise the dream of Digital Arunachal, VSATs will be installed in 882 locations for last mile connectivity even in the remotest corner of Arunachal Pradesh,” stated an official release here.

More than 50% VSATs have already been installed in various locations across the State including government schools and health facilities, it said.

The release also said that Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar today held a video conference with the Deputy Commissioners of Pakke Kessang, Shi-Yomi and Kamle districts to test the recently installed BBNL VSAT system over there.

Even if the video conference went by without any signal glitch, it was however feared that certain weather conditions may hamper the signal quality of the VSAT signal. The Chief Secretary, therefore, directed the IT department and the telecom service and infrastructure service providers to explore better technologies which can enhance the signal quality of the VSAT.

Secretary IT Anirudh S Singh, Special Secretary IT Shashvat Saurabh, BSNL Sr GM Dilip Siram and representatives from the Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) were present in the VC, the release added.
