Santi Sikom, other medallists from Karate C’ship at Colombo accorded rousing reception on return

ITANAGAR, Dec 1: Santi Sikom and other medal winners from the recently concluded 6th South Asian Karate Championship at Colombo, Sri Lanka were given rousing reception on their arrival at Naharlagun railway station today.

Several parents, family members, relatives and well-wishers welcomed the medal winners and motivated them. 

Several leaders of the Tagin community and Tator Welfare Society, All Tagin Youth Organization also attended the welcome ceremony.

Five players from Arunachal Pradesh, representing India at the 6th South Asian Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior Karate Championship held at Colombo in Sri Lanka, shone by clinching six medals for the country.

The five karatekas clinched a total of six medals, including three gold, one silver & two bronze, at the two-day South Asian Championship that concluded at Colombo on November 28.

The gold medals were won by Namsai Bagbi in cadet boys kumite-63 kg weight category, Deepak Jomoh (junior boys kumite-55kg) and Tachi Bagang in senior kumite-50 kg.

Santi Sikom bagged the lone silver medal in U-21 female kumite-50 kg category.

Both bronze medals were secured by Lokam Naime. One came from individual female kumite and the other in team kata event.

Tator Santi Sikom, D/o Tator Rakie Sikom, is a student of BA 5th semester from Govt College, Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district.
