Padma Shri awardee arrives to a rousing reception

PASIGHAT, Apr 23: A rousing reception was extended to Padma Shri awardee Yanung Jamoh Lego by the Pasighatians upon her arrival here this evening.

Lego received the prestigious Padma Shri award from President Droupadi Murmu for her contributions to the traditional healthcare system.

She is the second Padma Shri recipient from the Adi community after noted poet and novelist Mamang Dai.

During a media briefing at the Siang Guest House, Lego expressed her gratitude to everyone present and admitted that being conferred with such a high recognition puts immense pressure on her shoulders but at the same time motivates her to work even harder.

Lego, a former Deputy Director of the State Agriculture Department, had completed her studies from Assam Agriculture University. Motivated by her parents, she got into herbal medicines and traditional healing at an early age, and is now practicing extensively for more than three decades and healing the people across Northeast region in particular and the nation as a whole. It is also reported that many patients from foreign countries also have been taking her traditional herbal medicines.

Lego Erang Kebang president Atop Lego, ABK East Siang general secretary Kalen Komut, Anggong Society district unit president Takiam Goi and Adi Baané Aane Kébang (ABAK) president Oming Jamoh Pertin also spoke on the occasion.

East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu while congratulating Lego for her rewarding and successful career, overcoming three challenging decades, stated: “You are a dedicated healer having tested yourself’.
