Tourists foursome from mainland India treated to ‘rural life’ in a Galo-inhabited village in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Apr 29: With a view to promote agriculture tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, especially in a Galo-inhabited village under West Siang district, four domestic tourists from mainland India were treated to a “perfect picture” of a rural life through community agriculture practices.

A senior tour operator of the State made the plans and preparations for the foursome comprising two tourists each from Delhi & Mumbai, for the visit. They started trekking from Tirbin via Gadi Mesi –Gangkak village of West Siang district and stayed at his (tour operator’s) native Akker Yomgam village.

The tourists were received warmly by a local cultural group, dressed in their traditional attires. They were also treated to the traditional dance later in the evening.

The month of April is the peak season for agriculture, especially for those among the Galo tribe who practise shifting /traditional cultivation. The very month also witnesses sowing of seeds and burning of jungle and clearing of fields for planting.

The quartet also enjoyed the activities of shifting cultivation of the Galo tribe at Yomjum Yomgam’s (MD M/s Yomgam Tours and Travels) village, amid the presence of farmers of the village during the entire two days of their stay.

They also learnt different local cultures and traditions of the tribal people.

Moreover, the senior tour operator felt that employment generation will get a boost in rural areas of the State, provided, agriculture tourism is encouraged.
