Daporijo, Aug 17: A 10-member committee has been constituted to address the prevailing tension over the Subansiri Upper Hydro Project following a consultative meeting held on Saturday at Daporijo.
The meeting, chaired by Labour & Employment and IPR Minister Nyato Dukam, was convened in the wake of protests and public opposition to the construction of the project over the Menga River under Taliha constituency.
During the deliberations, representatives from various affected villages voiced their strong opposition, citing concerns over livelihood loss, displacement, environmental degradation, seismic vulnerability, and social issues.

MLA Taniya Soki (Daporijo), MLA Rode Bui (Dumporijo), and MLA Nakap Nalo (Nacho) also appealed to the public to reconsider their stance and allow peaceful implementation of the project, stressing the development opportunities it would usher in upon completion.
Speaking at the meeting, NHPC General Manager Deepak Sagar clarified that the project was initiated at the behest of the state government, and assured that if the government requested its cancellation, NHPC would comply. He also highlighted the coordination between the administration, the state, and NHPC on such projects.
