YINGKIONG, Oct 13: Unnot Taye, who was engaged as an army porter on September 17 for work on the Panggo–Jorging foot track in Upper Siang district, went missing while returning from duty three days later (Sep 20), and subsequently, was traced after 20 days of painstaking search & rescue (SAR) operations by the Tuting police team on October 10.
Unnot Taye, S/o Dhenuram Taye, resident of Akshipur village, Jalakia, District Dhemaji (Assam), was engaged as an army porter along with 11 others from Assam with effect from 17.09.2025 by Tahong Tamut (contractor) for work on the Panggo–Jorging foot track in the Tengo-1 and Tengo-2 border areas.
Unfortunately, on September 20, Taye went missing at Midak area, approximately 25 km from Panggo village, while returning from duty. A missing report was subsequently lodged at Tuting police station on September 23.
Following the report, a rigorous Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was launched by the Tuting police team led by SI Jumken Rina, OC Tuting PS, along with JMS members led by Opang Taron, KDO members led by Tahong Tamut, army porters, and villagers from Panggo and Migging villages under the guidance of the HGBs and GPCs. The operation covered the hilly terrains and riverbanks of the Shirapate River from September 21 to October 9.
After 20 days of continuous search, Lipun Talong, an army porter from Kugging village, spotted Unnot Taye in an unconscious condition at Midak Camp area on October 10.
Upon receiving the information, a rescue team comprising police personnel, medical team, JMS and KDO members, and Panggo villagers including members from Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, Panggo village unit immediately proceeded to the spot.
Dr Maktel Yompang, MO Tuting, provided immediate medical aid on-site. The rescue team then carried Taye on foot by putting him on their back, as he was too weak to walk by himself for approximately 25 km through difficult hilly terrain, reaching the road point on October 11.
Subsequently, Taye was evacuated to District Hospital, Yingkiong the next day from Tuting, and thereafter, he was taken to Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat, on Monday for further medical treatment. After necessary medical examination and stabilization, he was handed over to his family members on the same day (today).
In the meantime, Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang has expressed his deep appreciation and satisfaction over the successful rescue operation. He extended heartfelt gratitude to SP Upper Siang Token Saring, ADC Tuting Pandov Perme, OC Tuting PS, MO Tuting, JMS team leader Opang Taron, KDO team leader Tahong Tamut, HGBs/GBs/GPCs/GPMs, and women SHGs of Panggo & Migging villages for their relentless efforts, cooperation, and support.
