ITANAGAR, Oct 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Anini conducted a training programme for farmers at its centre today.
Subject matter specialist (horticulture) Dr Oying Jamoh spoke on the improved package of practices for major Rabi crops, and highlighted scientific cultivation methods for higher productivity.
During the session, Dr Jamoh emphasized the importance of adopting modern, scientific cultivation techniques to enhance both the productivity and profitability of these crops. She provided a comprehensive overview of best practices, including seed selection, soil preparation, nutrient management, pest and diseases control, irrigation scheduling and post-harvest handling.
The session also highlighted the role of technology and innovation in ensuring sustainable agricultural practices, by encouraging farmers to shift from traditional methods to evidence-based approaches.
Agro-forestry expert Neelam Sunny dwelt on natural farming, emphasizing sustainable and eco-Friendly agricultural approaches that reduce input cost and improve soil health. He emphasized the need to transition from chemical-intensive agriculture to more sustainable and eco friendly methods that preserve soil health, protect biodiversity, and ensure long term productivity.
Soil science expert Narang Ampi discussed the improved package of practices for major oilseeds, focusing on soil fertility management and nutrient application for enhanced oilseeds yield. She highlighted key oilseeds such as mustard, groundnut, soybean, and sunflower, emphasizing their economic importance and potential to contribute to self-reliance in edible oil production.
Dani Nampi delivered a comprehensive session on the system, highlighting its critical role in monitoring and managing pest populations across agricultural landscapes. She explained how the system functions as an early warning mechanism, enabling timely detection of pest outbreaks and minimizing crop losses. During her presentation, Nampi emphasized the importance of field level data collection, real time reporting and coordination action among farmers, extension workers and research institutions.
Nani Kania touched on topics such as farmers’ grievances redressal portal, GST reduction benefits and various flagship government schemes aimed at supporting farmers. He emphasized the importance of an accessible support system and sustainable practices for improving farmers’ livelihood.
