Tagom Padung elected Chief Councillor, Kamin Lego Deputy Chief of PMC

Pasighat, Jan 12: In the first meeting of the newly elected councillors of the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), held at the DC’s Conference Hall in Pasighat today, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA)’s councillor from GTC Ward No. 1, Tagom Padung, was unanimously elected unopposed as the Chief Councillor of PMC. Kamin Lego (PPA), representing Ward No. 4 from Paglek, was also declared unopposed as the Deputy Chief Councillor.

The meeting was presided over by the Presiding Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, East Siang, Sonalika Jiwani, who administered the oath of office to the newly elected councillors representing all eight wards of the municipal area. Assistant Commissioner (Municipal) Yamo Tamut supervised the proceedings.

Congratulating the newly constituted PMC team, DC Sonalika Jiwani expressed confidence that under the leadership of Chief Councillor Tagom Padung and Deputy Chief Councillor Kamin Lego, Pasighat would witness transformative initiatives in urban governance. She stressed the importance of strengthening public grievance redressal mechanisms, advancing digital governance, and improving municipal services to enhance the quality of life for citizens and visitors of the Pasighat Smart City.

The DC emphasized the need to reinforce municipal administration through innovative measures and expansion of self-revenue generation. She urged the new team to set new benchmarks in civic amenities, including city cleanliness, sanitation, greenery, efficient garbage collection and segregation, storm-water drainage, and the creation of a comprehensive sewage system with a future-oriented vision for a growing Pasighat.

Highlighting urban waste management challenges, she informed that the municipal area generates around 13,000 metric tonnes of garbage daily, and noted that the Solid Waste Management Plant (SWMP) and the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) established under the Smart City project are key infrastructures. With rapid urban growth, she said, additional manpower and civic infrastructure would be required. Calling it a crucial phase for PMC, she urged the new council to build upon the work of the previous body and take the city’s development agenda forward.

The Chief Councillor, Deputy Chief Councillor, and other councillors shared their priorities and resolved to function as a cohesive team for the overall development of the Pasighat municipality.

The six other newly elected councillors of PMC are: Mem Tamut (Ward No. 2), Oyon Pabin (Ward No. 3), Rahul Tamuk (Ward No. 5), Mary Gao (Ward No. 6), Pema Dolma Moyong (Ward No. 7), and Oni Tamuk (Ward No. 8). (DIPRO)
