CoSAAP to hold ‘Itanagar Chalo Maha Rally’ on Apr 17

Itanagar, Apr 13: The Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP), along with its wing National Movement for Old Pension Scheme, has announced an ‘Itanagar Chalo Maha Rally’ on April 17 to press for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

The rally aims to demand scrapping of the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and reinstatement of OPS for state government employees.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, CoSAAP president Likha Tech said the demand for restoration of OPS has been long pending, despite repeated submissions of memorandums and representations to the State government.

He argued that the NPS does not guarantee social and economic security after retirement, stating that it is largely dependent on market-linked returns. “The future of employees and their families is tied to market fluctuations under NPS,” he said.

He further noted that similar demands for scrapping NPS and restoring OPS have been raised in several other states and Union Territories.

Informing about the rally route, Tech said the procession will commence from RK Mission Hospital compound and culminate at IG Park. He appealed to all government employees and their family members to participate in large numbers.
