ITANAGAR, Jan 9: The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) on Thursday adopted the newly designed official logo of APLA by voice vote following a brief discussion by the members of the House.
The new logo, which was presented on table of the House by Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona on the opening day of four-day Assembly session on Tuesday, consists of the national emblem and the state flower namely, Fox tail orchid (Rhynchostylis retusa), in Assamese language ‘kopou phool’.
The symbol of national emblem signifies federal system of Indian Constitution, the State flower represents the State of Arunachal Pradesh and its people and culture as a whole and the Blue color denotes the autonomy of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
“The State Legislative Assembly is a distinct, independent and key institution of the democratic set up. By considering its dignity and status it was felt necessary to redesign a distinctive and meaningful logo. Therefore, existing logo of APLA has been redesigned and amended suitably, which reflects the distinct identity and culture of the state,” Speaker Sona said.
“Logo is an effective way to convey about a good cause in the right spirit. I am happy that a redesigned logo of Arunachal Legislative Assembly was adopted today. The logo features state flower #FoxtailOrchid over the national emblem with blue as background colour,” Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated in a tweet.
Dy CM Chowna Mein while congratulating the Speaker for coming up with the new logo of APLA said it is a beautiful logo and is for entire people of Arunachal Pradesh. The Fox tail orchid symbolizes the diverse culture of the state.
Arunachal is the paradise of orchid. There are around 1000 orchid varieties in the world and out of which more than 500 are available in the state. Around 150 exotic varieties are available in the state which can be marketed and propagated.
Advocating that research and development (R&D) activities are essential for promotion and propagation of orchids, he urged upon the Forest Department to work on this area while assuring all support from the state government’s end.
Congress MLA Ninong Ering also congratulated the Chair for bringing the new logo, and suggested for erecting structure for standing or taking rest by the PSOs and other security personnel nearby the main gate of the Assembly.
Former Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong also gave thumbs up to the new logo and said it dignifies the state’s culture. While stating that portraits of former Speakers of the APLA have been changed to art form, he suggested that the old photographs should not be thrown into dustbins and rather preserved somewhere in the Assembly for further reference.
Members including Minister Kamlung Mosang, Laisam Simai, Lokam Tasar and Gabriel D Wangsu also participated in the discussion and congratulated the Speaker for bringing the new logo of the Assembly.
